Racetracks can reopen on June 1st, but how will patrons place bets?

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced over the weekend that the phased in reopening of the economy-at-large would include horse racing.

That won’t happen until June 1st, but it’s a solid date that gives those in the industry a chance to prepare.

Precautions will be necessary and fans will not be allowed. However, it’s not clear how bets will be placed if tracks are closed.

Legislative efforts to open up betting to the virtual space has been met with criticism in the past. It’s unclear if a piece of legislation could be pushed through to assist with those tracks reopening in June.

Governor Cuomo said he’s working to open as much of the economy as possible without allowing crowds to gather.
