Ithaca police are warning residents to avoid an aggressive fox reported Thursday in the area of Elmira Road and Spencer Road.
The Ithaca Police Department said it received several reports July 9 of a fox approaching pedestrians and either biting or attempting to bite them.
Residents should not approach the animal and should report any sightings or encounters to Tompkins County Dispatch, police said.
Anyone who has been bitten or scratched should seek immediate medical attention.
The Ithaca Police Department and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are investigating.
