Canandaigua man faces charges after cocaine found during stop

Canandaigua man faces charges after cocaine found during stop

A Canandaigua man was charged Wednesday after Ontario County sheriff's deputies said they found cocaine during a traffic stop in the town of Canandaigua.

Deputies said the stop happened at 7:19 p.m. July 9 at 3225 State Route 364 for vehicle and traffic violations.

During a roadside investigation, deputies identified a passenger as Shane E. Smolinski, 48, of Canandaigua. Further investigation found that Smolinski was in possession of cocaine, according to the sheriff's office.

Smolinski was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was released on an appearance ticket and will answer the charge at a later date.
