Geneva City Councilor Ahmad J. Whitfield rejected a plea offer Monday in Ontario County Court, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Whitfield, a councilor-at-large, is facing felony drug charges after State Police accused him in January of selling cocaine and fentanyl. Prosecutors said the case could now move to a grand jury.
Whitfield was arrested following a narcotics investigation involving State Police, Geneva police and sheriff’s offices in Ontario and Seneca counties. He has not attended City Council meetings since his arrest, though he remains in office and continues to be paid.
Mayor Jim Cecere has urged Whitfield to either resign or resume his duties as a councilor.
