The Seneca County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a bail-payment scam targeting families of people held at the county correctional facility.
The Sheriff's Office said fraudulent suspects have been contacting family members of incarcerated people and claiming their relatives will be released from custody if bail money is sent through PayPal or Venmo.
Officials said there are only two ways to post bail for people held by the county.
The preferred option is through the secure website GovPayNow.com. The second option is to make payment in person at the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said residents should direct questions about bail to the Corrections Division.
