The 2027 BMW X5 is one of the biggest updates the model has ever seen. The fifth generation SUV is based on BMW’s new platform and is offered with more options than ever before. Buyers will be able to choose between a conventional gasoline engine, a plug-in hybrid, a fully electric iX5 and a future hydrogen fuel-cell model. The broad portfolio of powertrains allows customers to select the powertrain that best meets their driving needs, while also supporting BMW’s transition to cleaner mobility.
What Powertrain Options Can Buyers Choose?
ICE: Meanwhile, the X5 40 is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six that produces 394 horsepower. It’s expected to start at $71,250 in the United States. BMW will continue to sell diesel variants in select global markets for those drivers seeking greater fuel efficiency.
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): The X5 50e and X5 60e xDrive pair gasoline engines with electric motors. These models output between 482 and 603 horsepower. They can go up to 102 km (61 miles) on electric power only, allowing for more efficient daily travel and long distance travel.
Fully Electric (iX5): The new iX5 60 xDrive features a 144 kWh battery and 570 hp. With ultra-fast 460 kW charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes. Expect the starting price to be around $81,250.
Hydrogen gas: BMW also plans to add a hydrogen fuel-cell X5 later in the life cycle of the vehicle. The model should offer 400 or more miles of driving range and take about five minutes to fill its hydrogen tanks.
How Does the Exterior and Design Stand Out?
Design & Exterior: The 2027 BMW X5 has a fresh look thanks to BMW’s Neue Klasse design language. It has an illuminated kidney grille, flush integrated door handles and distinctive double-X lighting signatures.
