A Rochester hiker was rescued and taken to the hospital after suffering a shoulder injury while hiking in one of the Finger Lakes region’s most popular natural areas earlier this month.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said Forest Ranger Dylan Dormer responded to a call for assistance at Conklin Gully in the Town of Italy on June 13 at approximately 11:45 a.m.

The injured hiker, a 26-year-old from Rochester, was hiking in Conklin Gully on the High Tor Wildlife Management Area when emergency responders were notified of the incident.

Forest Ranger Dormer joined members of the Ontario County Rope Rescue Team, Yates County Rope Rescue Team and the Naples Fire Department in responding to the scene.

Rescuers determined the hiker had suffered a dislocated right shoulder. After evaluating the injury, emergency personnel assisted the hiker on a half-mile walk out of the area.

A Naples Ambulance met the patient roadside and transported them to Thompson Hospital for further treatment.

The rescue was among several wilderness incidents handled by DEC Forest Rangers across New York during the week of June 9 through June 15, according to the agency’s latest weekly report highlighting search-and-rescue operations and emergency responses statewide.

Conklin Gully, located near Naples in southern Yates County, is a popular destination known for its waterfalls, steep terrain and rugged hiking conditions.
