Drivers in the Town of Canandaigua will face a significant traffic disruption beginning next week as a major phase of the North Road reconstruction project gets underway.
Town officials announced that North Road will be closed to all traffic between Cayuga Street and East Street starting Monday, June 22. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two weeks while crews remove the existing roadway and install a new one.
The closure marks one of the most intensive stages of the ongoing construction project, which has been underway to improve the heavily traveled corridor.
According to the town, work will continue after the roadway replacement is completed. From July 6 through July 13, crews are scheduled to install new concrete curbs and sidewalks along the project area.
Construction will then move into the final roadway phases. Between July 13 and July 26, workers are expected to install the road’s stone base before paving operations begin and asphalt is laid.
Town officials are encouraging motorists to avoid North Road whenever possible and use alternate routes during the construction period to minimize congestion and delays.
Officials thanked residents and motorists for their patience as the project continues.
