Former Weedsport planning chair blames Byrne Dairy vote

A bitter dispute over a Byrne Dairy project continues to ripple through Weedsport, according to The Citizen. Former planning board chair David Lipiska says town officials pushed him out after the board approved the controversial convenience store and gas station on the former Shurfine site.

Lipiska, who served on the joint Brutus-Weedsport planning board for 11 years, claims town leaders retaliated against him because he refused to block the Byrne Dairy proposal. He specifically accused acting Supervisor Amy Chirco and Town Board member Derric Slocum of holding grudges tied to board decisions and past disagreements.

Chirco and Slocum denied the allegations. Chirco said board appointments expire and reappointments aren’t guaranteed, while Slocum said decisions are based on qualifications. Lipiska said he’s considering legal action as the dispute over his removal and the Byrne Dairy project continues.
