Auburn man charged with burglary after Clark Street break-in investigation

An Auburn man was charged with burglary and criminal mischief after police said he forced his way into a residence and damaged property before fleeing the scene.

Officers with the Auburn Police Department responded to a burglary complaint on Clark Street on June 14. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect had already left the area on foot.

Police said the investigation led officers to identify the suspect as Raymond Portuondo Jr. Investigators determined Portuondo allegedly kicked in the door of the residence and caused damage inside the home before leaving the scene.

Authorities said officers attempted multiple times to contact Portuondo at his residence without success. Later that same morning, the victim contacted police and reported seeing Portuondo walking near the residence.

Officers responded to the area, located Portuondo and took him into custody without incident.

Portuondo was charged with one count of second-degree burglary, a Class C felony, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, Class A misdemeanors.

Following the investigation, he was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
