Pedestrian walkway on Forest Home Bridge closed over safety concerns

The pedestrian walkway on the Forest Home Bridge has been closed indefinitely after a recent inspection identified a safety concern.

The Town of Ithaca announced the closure through a Tompkins SIREN alert, saying the walkway between Judd Falls Road and Pleasant Grove Road is closed effective immediately. Officials said the issue was discovered during a recent New York State Department of Transportation inspection and that the bridge will remain closed to pedestrians pending further evaluation and repairs.

Authorities said pedestrians are not permitted to use the vehicle travel lane to cross the bridge and should instead use alternate routes. Suggested detours include traveling east through the Cornell Botanic Gardens to the upstream bridge or heading west past Beebe Lake to the Triphammer Footbridge.

The Forest Home Bridge spans Fall Creek in the Forest Home area. Fencing and warning tape have been installed to block access to the pedestrian portion of the structure.
