Hydrilla treatment is underway on Cayuga Lake as state and county officials continue efforts to fight the invasive plant, according to the Cayuga County Health Department. The first application began Tuesday in the South Aurora Project Area between Wells College Bay and Long Point State Park.
The initial treatment is expected to take about 10 weeks, depending on weather, with additional areas near north Aurora and south of Long Point planned later this summer.
Officials said signs will be posted at public access areas during herbicide applications. Drinking, swimming, fishing and boating are not restricted during the work.
