Mercy Flight completes landmark merger with Finger Lakes Ambulance

A first-of-its-kind EMS merger in New York is now official, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Mercy Flight and Finger Lakes Ambulance marked the completion of their integration Friday with a public celebration in Clifton Springs after receiving final state and regional approvals.

The two organizations spent the past five years working together on operations, clinical services, and administration before Mercy Flight signed an agreement to acquire Finger Lakes Ambulance last December. Officials finalized the deal earlier this year following approval from regional EMS councils and the New York State Department of Health.

Leaders say the merger creates a unified nonprofit system better positioned to handle staffing shortages, rising call volumes, growing costs, and reimbursement challenges. The combined organization will continue providing air and ground emergency medical services throughout the Finger Lakes region.
