Yates County Sheriff’s Office hiring corrections officers

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office is seeking full-time and part-time corrections officers and is encouraging qualified candidates from Yates and neighboring counties to apply.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid New York state driver’s license, be a U.S. citizen, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates also must live in Yates County or one of its contiguous counties — Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca or Steuben — at the time of employment.

The starting pay under the 2026 contract is listed at $27.02 per hour for full-time corrections officers and $23.99 per hour for part-time officers. Full-time employees are eligible for an increase to $28.43 per hour after their first year of employment.

Officials said appointment to the position is contingent upon successfully completing a physical fitness test, medical examination and psychological evaluation. New hires must also complete New York State Basic Correction School and Peace Officer Training within their first year of employment, with training provided by the agency.

Applications are being accepted through the Yates County civil service system.
