Town of Canandaigua launches summer parks challenge with new patch program

The Town of Canandaigua is encouraging residents to spend more time outdoors this summer through a new parks challenge program that officially launched over Memorial Day weekend.

Town officials announced the start of the community “Patch Program,” which invites participants to visit parks throughout the town while completing activities to earn themed patches.

The first featured challenge is the “Get Outdoors and Explore Patch,” which requires participants to visit all eight designated town parks and complete at least one activity at each location.

The participating parks include Blue Heron Park, Leonard R. Pierce Park, McJannett Park, Miller Park, Onanda Park, Richard P. Outhouse Park, Motion Junction Playground and West Lake Schoolhouse Park.

Participants are asked to document their visits by taking photos or completing journal entries showing the date, time and activities completed at each park.

Town officials said a full activity list is available through the town parks department website.

Completed entries can be submitted at the Onanda Park gatehouse between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 25 through Sept. 7. Residents can also submit materials through the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall.

The program is designed to encourage families and residents to explore local parks and recreation spaces throughout the summer season.
