Northside Ithaca crash fuels safety push

A pedestrian struck while walking her dog on Hancock Street has intensified calls for traffic calming measures in Ithaca’s Northside neighborhood, according to The Ithaca Voice.

Residents say speeding, aggressive driving, and cut-through traffic have worsened as congestion grows on nearby Route 13. The woman injured on Mother’s Day suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a driver turning onto Second Street failed to see her in the roadway, police said.

City officials are now discussing both short-term enforcement and long-term infrastructure changes, including raised crosswalks, curb narrowing, and a broader traffic safety study. Local leaders say similar complaints are surfacing across Ithaca as residents push for safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists.
