Two employees at the Farmington McDonald’s are celebrating major academic milestones this spring while continuing to work at the restaurant through McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity education program.
Local owner-operators Tim and Mari Potter recognized the graduates during a May 19 event highlighting employees balancing work, school, and personal responsibilities while pursuing higher education.
Karlee Reed, who has worked at the Farmington McDonald’s for five years, recently graduated from Keuka College with a nursing degree. Reed is scheduled to begin an ICU nurse residency program in August.
According to organizers, Reed credited her time working at McDonald’s with helping her develop customer service and communication skills, particularly while working in the drive-thru.
Aidan McCarthy, a shift manager who has also worked at the restaurant for more than five years, graduated this spring from University at Buffalo with a master’s degree in business analytics after previously earning his undergraduate degree there.
McCarthy said the restaurant’s flexible scheduling and educational support helped him balance academics and work responsibilities throughout high school and college. He is currently exploring career opportunities, including potential roles with McDonald’s corporate operations in Chicago, while continuing to work locally.
The graduates participated in McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program, which provides eligible employees with tuition assistance, career advising, English language courses, and other educational support services.
Restaurant officials said five employees at the Farmington location are currently participating in the program while pursuing educational advancement.
