Schuyler County deputies make multiple DWI, suspended license arrests

Schuyler County deputies make multiple DWI, suspended license arrests

A series of traffic stops and warrant investigations across Schuyler County led to multiple arrests and ticketed offenses earlier this month, according to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.

Among the arrests was Benjamin J. Metzger, 39, of Dundee, who was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content above .18, driving while intoxicated, and vehicle and traffic violations after a May 5 traffic stop on State Route 14 in Watkins Glen.

Thomas A. Steves Jr., 63, of Sayre, Pennsylvania, also was charged with aggravated DWI with a BAC above .18 and driving while intoxicated following an incident May 9 at Watkins Glen International on County Road 16 in the Town of Dix.

Deputies also reported several aggravated unlicensed operation charges tied to separate traffic stops throughout the county.

Jordan L. Burkhart, 33, of Cayuta, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation after a May 5 stop on Steuben Street in Montour Falls. Jason L. Bellows, 28, of Burdett, was charged with the same offense after a May 7 stop on State Route 228 in the Town of Catharine.

Ryan R. Sochia, 20, of Odessa, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation following a May 8 stop on State Route 14 in the Town of Montour. Charles L. Shaut, 65, of Dundee, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation after a May 8 stop on Bailey Hill Road in the Town of Tyrone.

John P. Southard, 32, of Painted Post, and Jennifer E. Swinnerton, 42, of Alpine, were each charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation following separate traffic stops on May 12 and May 14.

In a separate matter, deputies arrested Buck L. Bates, 42, of Elmira, on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in Watkins Glen Village Court on May 1.

All individuals were issued appearance tickets or traffic tickets and are scheduled to appear in their respective local courts at later dates.
