New Jersey man arrested after disturbance at Bath apartment complex

Police in the Village of Bath Police Department say a New Jersey man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly refusing to leave an apartment and obstructing officers responding to the scene.

Officers were dispatched around 9:04 p.m. May 19 to an apartment complex on West Washington Street in the Village of Bath for a report of an intoxicated man refusing to leave a caller’s apartment, according to police.

Police identified the suspect as 36-year-old David Christian of New Jersey.

Authorities said Christian met officers at the apartment door and was uncooperative, refusing to allow officers inside while another tenant had reportedly barricaded himself in a bathroom because he was afraid of Christian.

During the investigation, officers spoke with the victims and later arrested Christian on charges of second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, both Class A misdemeanors.

Police said Christian was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings.
