A massive pipeline meant to feed Micron’s Clay chip campus could move nearly 12 million extra gallons of water daily, according to CNY Central, but officials still need to close a $74 million funding gap before construction starts.
Micron Technology plans to pay at least $200 million toward the $274 million project, which includes a new nine-mile water line tied into Lake Ontario infrastructure near Fulton. The pipeline would support Micron’s expected demand of 16.8 million gallons per day, far exceeding any current OCWA customer.
Officials say the new line would also strengthen the region’s water system by reducing pressure on existing infrastructure and providing backup capacity during failures. The remaining funding is expected to come from state, federal, and possibly ratepayer sources.
