Demolition work at the former Great Northern Mall is about to become far more visible, according to CNY Central, as developers push ahead with a massive redevelopment tied to Micron’s growing impact on Central New York.
Developers said utility crews are preparing the site for vertical demolition after some residents questioned whether work had stalled when equipment temporarily disappeared. Property owner Guy Hart said interest from national companies has surged since Micron’s January groundbreaking, with semiconductor-related businesses now eyeing the Clay property.
Plans for the former mall include housing, hotels, commercial space, and medical facilities connected to Upstate Medical University. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said the hotel portion is especially important because of the site’s proximity to Micron.
