Geneva police made several arrests over the past week involving alleged drug possession, thefts, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and domestic-related incidents across the city.
One of the more serious incidents involved a 61-year-old Geneva woman arrested after a crash on Hillside Drive. Police said officers determined Susan M. Smith was allegedly driving while impaired by drugs and later found a controlled substance in her possession. She was charged with DWAI, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and failure to maintain lane.
Police also arrested Kyle J. Swanson, 39, of Geneva, on petit larceny charges after investigators said he entered a vehicle parked on Grove Street and stole multiple items. Officers said additional charges could be pending as several vehicle theft complaints were reported the same day.
Another arrest involved Tracey M. Vasquez, 32, listed as homeless, who police said stole a package from the common area of the Seneca Apartments downtown. Officers said the package was valued at $7.45 and that a controlled substance was later found in her possession.
At the Exchange Place bus stop, police charged Grace J. Brinson, 63, and Lawrence C. Thomas, 46, both of Geneva, with disorderly conduct after officers allegedly observed them urinating on the bus stop building in public view.
Jonathan W. Kopetchny, 49, of Geneva, was charged with second-degree harassment after a downtown business owner reported that he repeatedly spit on storefront windows and made threatening gestures toward staff members.
Police also arrested Christopher L. Chilson, 30, of Phelps, after officers said they witnessed him fighting with a Byrne Dairy employee. Officers alleged Chilson resisted arrest and struggled with police during the incident. One officer was injured but did not require medical treatment.
Additional arrests included Yamil Medina-Velazquez, 39, of Geneva, on a trespassing charge after police said he entered Speedway despite having previously been issued a trespass notice, and Shannon T. Praylor Jr., 20, of Geneva, on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child following a domestic incident.
