Geneva homeowners stunned by reassessment spikes

Property owners across Geneva say massive assessment increases blindsided them just two years after the city’s last reassessment, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Some homeowners reported jumps between 60% and 97% on the tentative assessment roll. Residents say they fear higher tax bills, especially as budgets tighten and inflation continues squeezing household finances.

City officials argue reassessments help keep taxes equitable and prevent larger spikes over time. But frustrated residents say the latest numbers lack transparency and could push some families out of the city. Officials plan to address the reassessment process during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
