Former Auburn school board president charged in child pornography case

A former president of the Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education has been arrested on a felony child pornography charge, according to New York State Police.

State police said 70-year-old Charles O. Cator, of Fleming, was charged Tuesday with one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child younger than 17, a Class D felony.

According to the state police blotter, the alleged offense was reported Sept. 16, 2025. Additional details about the investigation had not been released as of Wednesday evening.

Cator served on the Auburn school board from 2005 through 2011 and was board president from 2008 to 2011.

Under New York law, promoting a sexual performance by a child can include producing, distributing, selling, downloading or otherwise sharing material depicting sexual conduct involving a person younger than 17.

State police have not announced additional charges or disclosed information about the circumstances leading to the arrest.
