FLCC to host regional AI conference focused on future of work

Artificial intelligence, its growing role in the workplace, and the broader questions surrounding its rapid expansion will take center stage next month at Finger Lakes Community College.

FLCC announced it will host the “FLX AI Hub 2nd Annual Community Convening: AI and the Future of Work” on June 10 in partnership with the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce. The all-day conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the college’s main campus in Canandaigua.

Organizers say the event is designed for both beginners and experienced AI users, blending practical workshops with larger discussions about how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, workplaces, and communities.

“Our members want to learn how to use AI, but they also have some broader questions and concerns related to AI and the growth and sustainability of their businesses,” said Tracey Dello Stritto, president and CEO of the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce. “Our goal with this event is to touch on both areas.”

The conference will include hands-on demonstrations and seminars covering AI basics, chatbot creation, image and video generation, and advanced prompting techniques. Sessions will also explore ethical concerns surrounding AI disclosure and the environmental demands tied to energy and water use at large-scale AI data centers.

Dave Ghidiu, associate professor of computing sciences at FLCC, is scheduled to lead sessions on advanced prompting and “vibe coding,” a growing practice where users generate computer code through AI prompts without traditional coding experience.

“We encourage attendees to bring laptops or other devices,” Ghidiu said. “We’re going to get some work done and have good conversations.”

The keynote speaker will be Jen O’Brien, director for research and innovation at the American Marketing Association. Organizers say her presentation will focus on AI’s impact on marketing and what those changes could mean for other sectors of the economy.

Additional speakers and panelists from industries including health care and agriculture are expected to discuss how AI tools are already changing day-to-day operations and workforce needs.

Katie Pullen, owner of Katie Pullen Allstate Insurance in Newark, will also present on practical AI applications for small businesses.

The conference is part of the FLX AI Hub initiative launched by FLCC in 2025 to help businesses, workers, and community members better understand and use artificial intelligence tools.

Advance registration is required. The $45 registration fee includes breakfast and lunch.
