Broken windows, break-ins, and even a fire have turned the former Newark Garden Hotel into a growing headache, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Police have increased overnight patrols while village officials work to secure the long-shuttered property on North Main Street.
Newark Police Chief Agustin Gonzalez said officers now conduct 20- to 30-minute property checks and added surveillance cameras after repeated vandalism incidents. Investigators believe security footage may help identify at least one of three teens connected to a recent late-night break-in.
There’s also some good news for the abandoned hotel. Realtor Jon Bagley said the property is expected to sell within the next few weeks after a failed $10 million redevelopment project left the building vacant.
