New lumberyard approved in Auburn

A vacant Auburn lot untouched for nearly 50 years will soon become a new lumberyard, according to The Citizen. The Auburn Planning Board approved Builder’s Choice Lumber Company’s plan Tuesday for a new facility between Cottage and Seymour streets.

Builder’s Choice will relocate from Columbus Street and build a 3,500-square-foot office and showroom along with three open-air lumber storage sheds. The company bought the 30 Cottage St. property in 2024 for $295,000 after outgrowing its current headquarters and nearby storage sites.

The project already includes a railroad spur for deliveries, and planners encouraged the company to route truck traffic through Seymour Street. Owner Chris Geherin said the larger property better fits the company’s growing operations.
