Will Warren endured his first rough outing of the season and the bats went silent as the New York Yankees fell 6-1 to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, snapping New York’s five-game win streak. The Yankees dropped to 25-12 while the Rangers improved to 17-19.
Texas grabbed control early for the second straight game. Corey Seager crushed a first-inning solo homer on a 3-0 pitch from Warren before the Rangers broke things open in the third. After Brandon Nimmo walked to begin the inning, Ezequiel Duran ripped an RBI double and Evan Carter followed later in the frame with a two-run homer to right field for a 4-0 advantage.
Warren never settled in, allowing six runs on seven hits across four innings while throwing 90 pitches. The right-hander struck out seven but matched a season-high with three walks in his shortest outing of the year. It marked the first time all season Warren allowed more than two earned runs in a start.
Meanwhile, Nathan Eovaldi continued his dominance over New York. The veteran right-hander carried a shutout into the sixth inning before Aaron Judge launched his MLB-leading 15th homer of the season. Eovaldi finished with eight innings of three-hit ball while striking out eight.
The Yankees managed only three hits all night. Cody Bellinger extended his hitting streak to eight games with a first-inning single, while Jose Caballero remained in the game after being hit near the left elbow by a curveball.
Yerry de los Santos provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts in his return to the majors.
The Yankees conclude their series with Texas on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. as Ryan Weathers (2-2, 3.03 ERA) faces Mackenzie Gore (2-2, 4.67 ERA).
