Macedon and Palmyra police launching summer food drive for local families

Police departments in Macedon and Palmyra are teaming up this summer to collect food donations for local students and families facing food insecurity while school is out of session.

The community food drive will begin May 15 and run through Aug. 31, with organizers seeking donations of non-perishable food items to support families throughout the summer months.

According to organizers, donation drop-off locations will include the Macedon Police Department, Palmyra Police Department, Gananda School District main offices, and Pal-Mac School District main offices.

Requested items include canned vegetables and fruit, soup, pasta, rice, boxed meals, cereal, peanut butter, shelf-stable milk, canned chicken or tuna, beans, macaroni and cheese, and snack items.

Officials asked residents not to donate expired items, opened packages, homemade foods, or perishable products.

The departments said the effort is intended to directly support local families and students who may rely on school meal programs during the academic year.

Residents with questions about the food drive can contact Officer Knapp of the Macedon Police Department or Officer Bryant of the Palmyra Police Department.
