Mottville firefighters assist in late-night brush fire response in Jordan

Fire crews from multiple departments were called in to battle a late-night outdoor fire in Cayuga County, with Mottville firefighters playing a key role in bringing the blaze under control.

The Mottville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched around 11:21 p.m. April 30 to assist the Jordan Fire District with a reported fire near the intersection of Whiting and Jordan roads.

Mottville responded with multiple units, including command vehicles, a squad, and a utility terrain vehicle equipped for off-road conditions. Crews were also placed on standby to provide additional coverage if needed.

Due to the fire’s location and limited access, additional mutual aid was requested from surrounding departments, including Cato, Weedsport, Warners-Memphis, and Marcellus, with several agencies deploying UTVs to navigate the terrain.

Mottville personnel used a skid unit mounted on their UTV to apply water directly to the fire, helping crews gain control of the blaze just before 1 a.m.

All units were cleared from the scene and returned to service shortly after 1 a.m.

Officials did not report any injuries, and the cause of the fire was not immediately released.
