Authorities investigate string of vehicle break-ins across Yates, Schuyler counties

A growing number of vehicle break-ins across parts of the Finger Lakes has prompted a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office said it is working with New York State Police and the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a series of reported vehicle break-ins and larcenies spanning multiple jurisdictions.

Officials did not specify how many incidents have been reported, but said the activity has been widespread enough to warrant a joint effort among agencies.

As the investigation continues, deputies are urging residents to take basic precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. That includes locking vehicle doors, removing valuables from inside cars, and remaining alert to suspicious activity in neighborhoods.

Authorities are also asking anyone who has experienced a vehicle break-in to report it, along with any missing items. Residents with surveillance footage or information that could assist investigators are encouraged to contact the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

No arrests have been announced.
