Woman, dog rescued from cliff in Ontario County

A routine Saturday afternoon turned into a technical rescue in the hills above Canandaigua Lake, where a woman and her dog were pulled to safety from a steep cliff face.

The Cheshire Fire Department responded to Seneca Hill Drive in South Bristol just before 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a woman and her dog stranded on the side of a cliff.

Fire Chief Chris Brown said crews arrived to find a 33-year-old woman and her dog approximately 40 feet down the cliff.

Firefighters initiated a rope rescue operation, carefully lowering equipment and securing both the woman and the animal before bringing them back to safety.

The rescue took about an hour to complete. No injuries were reported.
