The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team committed 10 errors in a doubleheader sweep to Jefferson Community College on Tuesday, falling 11-4 and 11-1 in five innings at Jefferson, as the Panthers dropped to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference while Jefferson improved to 15-10 and 5-3. Defensive miscues again defined the outcome for TC3.
In Game 1, the Panthers carried a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning before Jefferson erupted for nine runs to take control. Elizabeth Martin was charged with all 11 runs, though only two were earned as fielding issues extended innings. At the plate, Peyton Swartwout and Brooklyn Seiger each collected two hits, helping build the early advantage that slipped away late.
Game 2 followed a similar script, with unearned runs continuing to haunt the Panthers. Jefferson scored 11 runs, but only one was earned against Swartwout, as defensive breakdowns once again proved decisive. Makayla Esau provided the offensive highlight for TC3, going 2-for-2 with a triple, but the Panthers were unable to generate sustained offense in the shortened contest.
Across both games, Tompkins Cortland allowed 22 runs, with just three earned, underscoring the impact of defensive struggles despite solid efforts in the circle.
Tompkins Cortland returns to action Thursday at Genesee Community College as the Panthers continue Mid-State Athletic Conference play.
