Victor lands $4.5M NY Forward grant to boost downtown growth

State officials are directing a multimillion-dollar investment into the Village of Victor, aiming to accelerate redevelopment in one of Ontario County’s fastest-growing communities.

Victor will receive $4.5 million through New York’s NY Forward program, part of a broader statewide initiative focused on revitalizing downtowns and expanding housing and economic opportunities.

The funding targets a compact, walkable corridor along East and West Main streets, which serves as the village’s central spine and connects neighborhoods, small businesses, and civic spaces. State officials say the area already functions as a hub for more than 20,000 residents and is positioned for continued growth.

Plans tied to the award emphasize strengthening pedestrian connections and leveraging existing assets, including the Auburn Trail and other regional pathways that draw tens of thousands of users each year. The corridor also includes anchor sites such as the library campus, public park space, and areas identified for mixed-use housing development.

Local and regional partners, including the Victor Local Development Corporation and Ontario County Chamber of Commerce, have backed projects focused on small business development, adaptive reuse of existing properties, and attracting private investment.

State leaders say the award reflects Victor’s track record of planning and collaboration, as well as more than $1.3 million in prior Main Street funding that has already been deployed in the community.

The NY Forward program is designed to support smaller and mid-sized communities, complementing the state’s larger Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Officials say projects funded through the program are intended to create more vibrant, connected downtowns while supporting housing growth and long-term economic development.

Victor will now move into the planning phase, assembling a local committee and working with state-backed consultants to develop a strategic investment plan that will guide how the funding is spent.
