Horses spark healing at local Steuben County ranch

A dozen rescued horses are helping people build confidence and emotional skills in a quiet corner of Steuben County, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.

At Royale Ranch, founder Amy Mayer launched Equine Assisted Learning after visitors described powerful, calming experiences with the animals. The program uses ground-based interactions—no riding—to help participants improve self-awareness, communication, and emotional control.

Mayer says demand is growing fast, with interest from nonprofits, colleges, and businesses. She’s expanding carefully, keeping the focus on meaningful experiences while giving older or non-riding horses a renewed purpose in the community.
