Route 36 closure planned in North Hornell for intersection work

Drivers traveling through North Hornell will need to plan ahead next week as a key intersection is set to close for construction.

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that portions of State Route 36 and County Route 66 (Webbs Crossing Road) will be closed beginning Monday, April 20, to allow for work tied to an ongoing project in the area.

The closure will impact the northbound right-turn lane, the southbound left-turn lane, and a section of Webbs Crossing Road between the intersection and Aldi’s. Officials said the work is expected to take about five days, with completion anticipated by the end of the day on April 27.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to follow a signed detour using State Route 21. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to consider alternate routes when possible.

Transportation officials noted that construction schedules remain dependent on weather and site conditions, which could affect the timeline.

Drivers are also being reminded to slow down in work zones, where fines for speeding are doubled and repeated violations can result in license suspension.
