A Geneva man will spend a decade in state prison after being convicted on felony drug charges following a jury trial in Ontario County Court.
Yokohiro Vidal-Ortiz, 41, was sentenced April 15 to 10 years in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, along with three years of post-release supervision.
The sentence stems from a conviction for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, tied to intent to sell cocaine. Vidal-Ortiz also received a concurrent 364-day jail sentence for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance involving oxycodone.
The charges originated from a March 2025 investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, during which deputies conducted a traffic stop at Parkside Drive and Fire Hall Road in the Town of Canandaigua and recovered a significant quantity of drugs from the vehicle.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tim Boucher, who secured the guilty verdict at trial. District Attorney Jason MacBride said the sentence reflects ongoing efforts to hold drug traffickers accountable and limit the presence of illegal narcotics in the community.
