State slashes Cayuga Lake water withdrawals by 99% in major decision

New York officials just cut water withdrawals from Cayuga Lake by nearly 100%, according to the Finger Lakes Times, in a major environmental decision.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation reduced Cayuga Operating Company’s limit from 245 million gallons a day to just 1 million after a detailed review. Officials say the move protects water quality and enforces stricter modern standards.

Leaders also stressed the permit only applies to current operations, not any future data center proposals tied to TeraWulf. County officials praised the decision and said any new projects must face separate, thorough review.
