Presentation in Canandaigua to focus on scams and identity theft prevention

With scams and identity theft on the rise, local officials are hosting an upcoming event aimed at helping residents better protect themselves and their finances.

The Ontario County S.A.L.T. Council, which stands for Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, will hold an informational session this week focused on current scam trends, prevention strategies, and what to do if someone becomes a victim of financial abuse.

The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at Quail Summit on Parrish Street Extension in Canandaigua.

Organizers say the session will include guidance from local experts, including the director of the Ontario County Office for the Aging and a sergeant with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, who will walk attendees through real-world examples and practical steps to reduce risk.

Topics will include how scams are evolving, how to recognize warning signs, and how to respond quickly if fraud or identity theft occurs.

The event is open to the public, with desserts and drinks provided, and officials encourage residents to attend, ask questions, and learn how to better safeguard themselves and their loved ones.
