The New York Mets fell to 3-2 on the season after a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night, as the offense was limited to three hits despite a strong outing from Kodai Senga.
Senga delivered six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. The right-hander showcased increased velocity, consistently sitting in the upper 90s and generating swings and misses throughout. His only damage came in the third inning, when a two-run double gave St. Louis the early lead.
New York struggled to capitalize offensively, going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and leaving six men on base. Juan Soto accounted for two of the Mets’ three hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a double.
The Mets had opportunities early but could not break through. Jared Young struck out with runners on in the first, and a potential rally in the sixth ended on a lineout double play. Luis Robert Jr. hit the ball hard in a key spot but was retired on a deep flyout.
Bo Bichette, Francisco Lindor, and Marcus Semien were unable to provide production at the top of the lineup, continuing early-season struggles. The Mets drew four walks but could not string together enough offense to challenge St. Louis.
Out of the bullpen, Richard Lovelady allowed a solo home run in the seventh but limited further damage over two innings of work.
The Mets will look to rebound Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. as Freddy Peralta is scheduled to face Matthew Liberatore in the series finale.
