Palmyra pair charged in animal cruelty case

Wayne County deputies arrested two people Friday after investigating an animal cruelty complaint in the Town of Arcadia.

Meghan E. Vitaro, 24, and Dominic S. Vitaro, 80, both of Palmyra, were each charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty for failure to provide sustenance, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the charges stem from a two-year period in which multiple dogs were allegedly kept without proper food or water and housed in unsanitary conditions.

Authorities executed a search warrant at a Marbletown Road residence, where 25 dogs were found inside a home described as covered in animal feces and urine.

Officials said the residence had previously been condemned in March 2024 due to the conditions.

The dogs were removed from the home and turned over to the Wayne County Humane Society.

Both defendants were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Arcadia Town Court on April 23.
