Several Wayne County school districts will receive funding as part of a statewide grant program supporting students experiencing homelessness, state officials announced March 10.
The funding comes through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act and will be distributed to districts and consortiums across New York.
Lyons Central School District will serve as part of a consortium with Clyde-Savannah, Newark and Palmyra-Macedon school districts. The group will receive $171,100 for one year, totaling $513,300 over three years.
A second consortium that includes North Rose-Wolcott, Marion, Red Creek, Sodus, Williamson and Wayne school districts will receive $175,000 annually, totaling $525,000 over three years.
State officials said the funding will support programs that help students in temporary housing enroll in school, attend regularly and succeed academically.
Districts can use the funds for services such as tutoring, transportation, early childhood programs, and support services for students and families.
The grants will run from September 2025 through August 2028, with funding levels expected to remain consistent over the three-year period.
