The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office announced a promotion and outlined recent department activity in a March newsletter.
Sheriff Jim Allard said Sgt. Matt Sorge will be promoted to lieutenant effective April 8.
Sorge has led the Civil Division for 14 years and managed multiple programs, including accreditation, the school resource deputy program and the sex offender registry.
The department is also conducting interviews to fill a patrol sergeant position.
The agency reported the loss of 911 Deputy Director Nick Snyder, who died in February.
Officials said Snyder worked with both 911 and the Atlanta Hatch Hose Fire Company.
The department also swore in a new school resource officer for the Corning-Painted Post district, retired Deputy Michelle Weldon.
Training activity included multiple courses for deputies and corrections staff, including defensive tactics, leadership training and public safety instruction.
Five Steuben County corrections officers and one from Schuyler County are participating in the current basic academy.
