Bills release WR Curtis Samuel after disappointing two-year stint

The Buffalo Bills have moved on from veteran wide receiver Curtis Samuel after two seasons with the team.

The decision, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, comes as the Bills continue reshaping their roster ahead of the new league year.

Samuel, who turns 30 this summer, struggled to make a consistent impact during his time in Buffalo, largely due to injuries and limited production. He appeared in 19 games over two seasons, finishing with 38 receptions for 334 yards and two touchdowns.

Samuel recorded 31 catches for 253 yards and one touchdown in 2024. His role diminished further last season, when he appeared in just six games and totaled seven receptions for 81 yards and a score.

His most notable moment with the Bills came in the 2024 postseason, when he had three receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown in a 31-7 wild-card victory over the Denver Broncos.

According to Over The Cap, releasing Samuel will clear roughly $6 million in salary cap space for Buffalo while leaving about $3.45 million in dead money.

Samuel’s release is the second roster move involving a veteran player for the Bills on Friday, as the team also parted ways with cornerback Taron Johnson after eight seasons. The combined moves will save Buffalo just over $7.9 million in cap space (about $6 million from Samuel, $1.9 million from Johnson).
