Bills release CB Taron Johnson after eight seasons

Taron Johnson’s time with the Buffalo Bills has come to an end.

The Bills released the veteran cornerback, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, after eight seasons with the organization. The decision comes as the Bills continue reshaping their roster ahead of the new league year.

Johnson, 29, has spent his entire NFL career in Buffalo, appearing in 113 games with 87 starts since the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. During the 2025 season, he recorded 57 total tackles and four passes defensed in 13 games. Johnson was on the field for 74 percent of the Bills’ defensive snaps and four percent of special teams snaps in the games he played.

Johnson’s release is the second roster move involving a veteran player for the Bills on Friday, as the team also parted ways with wide receiver Curtis Samuel after two seasons. The combined moves will save Buffalo just over $7.9 million in cap space (about $6 million from Samuel, $1.9 million from Johnson).
