Ontario County highlights senior nutrition programs

Thousands of older Americans struggle to afford nutritious meals, a challenge local officials say programs in Ontario County are working to address.

The Ontario County Office for the Aging is marking National Senior Nutrition Month by promoting services that help older residents access healthy food.

Officials said about 13 million older adults experienced food insecurity in 2025, meaning they lacked reliable access to nutritious meals needed for healthy living.

The national campaign, led by USAging and the Eldercare Locator, focuses on helping older adults learn about available meal and nutrition programs.

Ontario County offers several services through its Office for the Aging, including home-delivered meals, group dining programs and nutrition counseling.

The agency operates eight community dining sites and more than 25 home-delivered meal routes across the county.

“Providing nutritious meals is one of the most powerful ways we can support older adults,” said Triciajean Saxton, director of the Ontario County Office for the Aging.

“When older adults have access to healthy food, they gain the energy and strength they need to maintain their independence and quality of life.”
