Big changes are about to hit downtown Waterloo as officials finalize the first projects tied to a massive state grant, according to The Finger Lakes Times. The village is moving ahead on its initial round of projects funded by a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative award approved last year.
The first five projects include upgrades to the Waterloo Community Center, downtown retail areas, canal connections, parking, and new branding and wayfinding. Village leaders are also finalizing a small-grants program to improve facades and convert buildings into apartments and retail space.
Mayor Walt Bennett called the funding transformational, saying it will spark private investment, boost quality of life, and draw new interest to the village.
