Yates passes tax levy override law

Yates County lawmakers approved a local law allowing a tax levy override if needed for the 2027 budget, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

The Legislature held a public hearing March 9 before passing the measure. Officials say the step gives the county flexibility to exceed the state tax cap if necessary while crafting next year’s spending plan.

Lawmakers also made several board appointments. Steve Hullings, Jack Young and Chandra Gilman were named to the planning board, while Steve Boisvert joined three regional economic development boards.
