South Seneca school voters approved a $36.75 million energy project that will modernize buildings and eliminate the district’s use of heating oil, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The March 10 vote passed 105–58. The project will upgrade mechanical systems, improve efficiency and transition the district to new heating and cooling systems that meet state requirements.
Officials say the work will not affect the tax levy. About 90% of the cost will be covered through state aid, energy savings and support from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Construction could begin between May and July and finish by December 2027.
