Animal shelters across New York must now meet tougher care and facility rules, according to WBNG. The new statewide standards require upgrades like heated floors, larger kennels, dedicated intake spaces, and stronger recordkeeping.
The Broome County Humane Society says the changes haven’t been easy. Leaders say rewriting or creating formal procedures took time, but it also pushed shelters to operate more consistently and professionally.
Officials say the updates improve daily operations and make it easier for staff to follow clear processes. Shelter leaders also view the new rules as a chance to strengthen practices they already had in place.
